Upcoming Meteor Event Happening This February 2023
T he Alpha Centauri meteor shower is set to peak around February 8, 2023, and will be visible up to 32°N. This shower produces up to 6 meteors per hour and is best viewed in the Southern Hemisphere. To find the shower's radiant, locate the constellation of Centaurus in the night sky and use a stargazing app or point your device towards the constellation. The Draconids meteor shower will start around October 8 and the Orionids meteor shower will peak on October 20, both of which will be good meteor showers to watch in 2023. Meanwhile, the Lyrids meteor shower will peak on April 21, 2023, and will be best viewed after the Moon sets. The Quadrantids, Eta Aquarids, Delta Aquarids, and Perseids are all good meteor showers in 2023. The large Anthelion (ANT) is currently centred at 10:24 (156) +10, and this radiant is best placed near 01:00 LST when it lies on the meridian and is highest in the northern sky.
